1-Why did you choose to sell on Etsy/ and do you sell anywhere else?

I came to Etsy because of its amazing talent. A new Artesian Market Place was just what I needed! I’ve been an artist for years selling locally, but had never quite found the right outlet online… until now. I have 3 stores here on Etsy because of the wide range of interests and mediums I like to play around with.
I do sell on other sites, and will be on my own soon. Etsy however will always be my foundation.

2- What is your fave thing to buy on Etsy (whether it be supplies or gifts etc.)

I like to by gifts for myself. Generally I’m always making gifts for other people, so when I see something unique, or something I haven’t tried or can’t make… I spoil myself with a Vintage or handmade treasure.

3-What is your current fave product/SELLER(not in your store) under 20$?

Well there are several, but one is the
Ammo- Ammonite Fossil in Cherry Wood by Hendywood.

4- Any advice for new sellers?

Be honest, and kind in your dealings.
Don’t give up if you have a slow start. Sometimes it takes a minute to find your nitch but when you do… you’ll be making a living, living.

1-Why did you choose to sell on Etsy/ and do you sell anywhere else?

I'm happy to have my creations available in several online venues and in person boutiques. My first experience selling handmade items was on Etsy. It's such a lively, friendly community. I've learned a lot over the past three years there and gradually expanded my business as a result. There was an article in "ReadyMade" magazine about Etsy that initially sparked my interest. Encouragement from friends led me to take the plunge.

2- What is your fave thing to buy on Etsy (whether it be supplies or gifts etc.)

It's fun to support other artists and craftspeople. While I hand make many of the gifts I give, I admittedly don't know how to do everything. I enjoy having a ready resource of unique options in other media, and have purchased items like handmade books, jewelry, screen printed apparel, whistles, goblets and horns.

3-What is your current fave product/SELLER(not in your store) under 20$?

4- Any advice for new sellers?

Patience. It takes time to learn the skills necessary to be a dynamic small business owner, savvy independent marketer, efficient accountant, innovative photographer, and all the other roles that get added on to just being your own creative self. Give yourself the time and freedom to stretch and grow. Overnight success isn't mandatory. It's okay to relax and enjoy the process.

1-Why did you choose to sell on Etsy/ and do you sell anywhere else?
I chose to sell on Etsy because I love to craft, and I have made far more handcrafted items than I can use or give to friends. I also wanted to be part of the amazing Etsy community.

2- What is your fave thing to buy on Etsy (whether it be supplies or gifts etc.)
I like to buy jewelry-making supplies and random works of art.

3-What is your current fave product/SELLER(not in your store) under 20$?
This beautiful
poster by crscheffe.

4- Any advice for new sellers?
Take nice photos of your items—items that are well-photographed, in focus, and well-lit sure catch my attention. Provide a variety of products at various price points in your shop. Don’t give up if you haven’t made sales because someone somewhere loves/will love your products!

Bowling Is Groovy vintage metal pinback button from fifthquadrant.etsy.com

1-Why did you choose to sell on Etsy/ and do you sell anywhere else?

I currently do not sell anywhere else. I first heard about etsy on Martha Stewart's television show and opened an account so I could by some artwork. When I found out you can also sell vintage on etsy, that seemed like a good fit since I am quite a collector of (too) many things. I also intended to sell some of my original artwork on etsy, but I haven't gotten very much of that listed.

2- What is your fave thing to buy on Etsy (whether it be supplies or gifts etc.)

My favorite thing to buy is small format size original artwork, especially paintings.

3-What is your current fave product/SELLER(not in your store) under 20$?

I have a painting I love by
timssally that was one of the first things I bought on etsy and I'm always checking out her shop to see what new artwork she's listed. I currently have my eye on this.

4- Any advice for new sellers?

Be patient (it took close to a year before I started seeing steady sales) and try to list (something every day to build up your inventory and hopefully keep being seen. Use the forums...there is so much great information available there. Keep learning how to take better photographs. Communicate with your customers, and don't take things personally if something goes awry.

I love the cuffs from radcow.

1-Why did you choose to sell on Etsy/ and do you sell anywhere else?
I chose to sell on etsy because I simply loved the concept of the handmade-and-vintage-only community. Etsy is the only place where I sell my items.

2- What is your fave thing to buy on Etsy (whether it be supplies or gifts etc.)
There is a great variety of artsy and beautiful products on Etsy so it's a bit hard to choose, but I personally love the unique range of clothing and jewelry on this site.

3-What is your current fave product/SELLER(not in your store) under 20$?

New sellers should follow the community discussions because they are the best when it comes to learning how Etsy functions! Learn from experienced users around here and don't quit too fast!

This belt is in good shape, there are no chips on agate just a tiny dot of glue? on the front from when it was made. The leather looks great with no wear at all.

1-Why did you choose to sell on Etsy/ and do you sell anywhere else?
I started selling on Etsy because I am a jewelry and accessories designer (
http://www.maryjanefrances.etsy.com) and loved the handmade market Etsy opened up. After selling handmade for a while, I found Etsy's vintage section... HEAVEN! Completely un-picked over like Ebay, and more competitively priced! And as an avid vintage lover of 60's and 70's style, I go to thrift shops and estate sales often, and find treasures that I simply can not walk away from, but don't need/ don't fit/ can't afford/ etc. Selling vintage on Etsy gives me a way to satisfy my "Vintage Jones" without the guilt or clutter that collecting 'too' many treasures can create!

2- What is your fave thing to buy on Etsy (whether it be supplies or gifts etc.)
Vintage cocktail rings. Big huge 'door knockers'. An obsession since childhood, I love rings with real stones and sterling or gold, but to buy them new, the size I like, is out of my price range. The quality of vintage jewelry is fabulous, and I tend to like the styling of vintage rings from the 50's -70's more then super sleek modern rings~

3-What is your current fave product/SELLER(not in your store) under 20$?
Right now I'm drooling over this
show stopper ring from peppertree!

4- Any advice for new sellers?
It takes a while to get into the swing of things, selling on Etsy is different then selling elsewhere, don't get discouraged and keep listing!

1-Why did you choose to sell on Etsy/ and do you sell anywhere else?
I sell of Etsy because it was easier for me than starting my own site and having to figure out how to get potential customers to know that I'm there, Etsy has a steady stream of clientel.

2- What is your fave thing to buy on Etsy (whether it be supplies or gifts etc.)
I love buying Vintage from Etsy.

3-What is your current fave product/SELLER(not in your store) under 20$?

Vintage White Beads and Silver Necklace from HELENSHASSACK.etsy.com

Entire necklace is 16.5 inches
White beaded section is 8.5 inches
Price: 9.00
From: HELENSHASSACK

1-Why did you choose to sell on Etsy/ and do you sell anywhere else?
My mom has been crafting and selling at craft shows my entire life. I love handmade items and loved the idea of selling some of my personal vintage jewelry on etsy and the idea just blossomed. Etsy really appeals to me because most of the people who sell on etsy have other full-time jobs (including being full-time moms, like how my mom was) and make extra money on etsy. I started selling on Etsy to make extra money for my wedding, now I'm funding my master's degree with my vintage pieces.

2- What is your fave thing to buy on Etsy (whether it be supplies or gifts etc.)
I love buying unique gifts on etsy. Nothing you can find in a regular store. I've found great gifts for baby showers/engagement presents/birthday presents. Everyone is always so pleased with the gifts.

3-What is your current fave product/SELLER(not in your store) under 20$?
JoysHope. I love her headbands. I bought a headband and still rock it even though I'm 23.

4- Any advice for new sellers?
Packaging & quick shipping. I always make sure my items are packaged well and arrive in one piece. I get comments on my packaging and quick shipping, people tend to come back and shop for more after they've received on well shipped piece.

1-Why did you choose to sell on Etsy/ and do you sell anywhere else?

Before joining Etsy I had tried selling on different sites with little success. After a little research and basically kicking the idea around for awhile I decided to join Etsy because of the friendly people I met here and it appeared to be a successful market with a variety of wonderful handmade items.
I also have the first shop on Etsy (rusticdivadesigns) which I opened before Gypsy Wynd plus I sell as Rustic Diva Designs on one other handmade item shopping site.

2- What is your fave thing to buy on Etsy (whether it be supplies or gifts etc.)

I love to find supplies on Etsy. There are some great items on here that you just can't find in stores plus the sellers are usually helpful in explaining exactly what it is they're selling. A very close second would have to be the handmade soaps. Mmmmmmm

3-What is your current fave product/SELLER(not in your store) under 20$?

Besides making the crocheted cuff bracelets it would be crocheted stocking caps. Those are so much fun to make.

4- Any advice for new sellers?

Basically my advice is stick with it and find ways to promote, promote, promote. I've seen so many talented artisans give up within a month or two because they didn't get the results they were expecting right away. Running a shop online takes research, promotion, networking and of course you have to keep a sense of humor and an optimistic outlook. All sellers go through slow times especially when starting out. Don't give up!

1-Why did you choose to sell on Etsy/ and do you sell anywhere else?
I choose to sell on Etsy as I was new to the handmade market and Etsy offered an already up and running market. Over the many months I realize that marketing is the key to staying open.

2- What is your fave thing to buy on Etsy (whether it be supplies or gifts etc.).
..well actually if you look at my feedback you can plainly see I LOVE to buy on Etsy, anything from felt animals, clothing, to supplies. It is a fun place to shop and I love to give support to my fellow handmade etsians.

3-What is your current fave product(not in your store) under 20$?
oh wow, I would probably say any supply seller from the following sellers: softcover, weekendjewelry1, and urbanrose.

4- Any advice for new sellers?
Get your pictures down first, learn to market, be nice anytime you go on the forums.

1-Why did you choose to sell on Etsy/ and do you sell anywhere else?

I came across Etsy by accident, actually. I was looking for a vintage dress to purchase, and was directed to the website. I began looking around and discovered what a wonderful community Etsy is, and what unique and fabulous things the sellers on Esty have to offer. And what unique and fabulous talents each seller in each store has here! That is something you can't come across very easily on eBay. I had so many vintage and handmade items of my own I was trying to find homes for, and had been trying to sell them on eBay without much luck. Once I discovered Etsy, a whole new world opened up to me, where I could actually have my own shop and I knew I would be selling to a whole different crowd of people - people who I knew would care a lot more about the items I was selling than those I found on eBay.

2- What is your fave thing to buy on Etsy (whether it be supplies or gifts etc.)

I LOVE custom designed clothing, especially vintage inspired designs. I have a particular interest in 1930s style clothing, and have been working to add this style of clothing to my wardrobe through custom made things. I love just about anything vintage, and to be able to have someone recreate that look for me I think is amazing.

3-What is your current fave product under 20$?

I love the "
baseball hat alternative" that I have listed for $13. It's a brown wool hat that can be worn in so many different way, but I love that it looks like a baseball cap, yet is so feminine. It is so perfect for the diva who wants to wear a baseball hat, but doesn't want to look like "one of the guys." AND I love that it is a handmade piece and was custom designed. It is such a gorgeous fall color, and matches just about anything.

4- Any advice for new sellers?

I think the best advice I can give is to just be you, and let your individuality really shine through. Don't be afraid to try anything! The folks here on Etsy I have found are very friendly and helpful, and we are all very open to new sellers and new stores. There is really no limit to what you can do here with your creativity....

5-And a favorite quote?

I can't remember the exact quote, but here is my version of it:
It is always best to have lived your life to the fullest and take chances, rather than easing through life, all the while wondering what you accomplished.

Black daisy brooch from Danielleorama.etsy.com

*Hand sewn out of wool felt with a bumble bee button embroidered detail, and fastened on a steel pin back.
Price: 12.00

1-Why did you choose to sell on Etsy/ and do you sell anywhere else?
Well I found Etsy through a craft community on Livejournal.com and it seemed like the perfect place to sell. I only sell on Etsy, I've had great luck and met awesome people, I love it!

2- What is your fave thing to buy on Etsy (whether it be supplies or gifts etc.)
I don't get to shop as much as I'd like, but I could spend hours looking through jewelry. I love trims, buttons and deco tape too!

3-What is your current fave product/SELLER(not in your store) under 20$?
Something I have in my favorites is this
awesome print by the lovely Yaelfran.

4- Any advice for new sellers?
1. Price your items well, sometimes I price things a bit lower than what they're actually worth, it's not all about making money for me, the fact that someone loves what I made and wants to wear it or have it in their home is an amazing feeling, and I know people aren't loaded with dough at this time :)

my biggest quip with new sellers are items priced too high! If you're just starting out you gotta do your time, take it easy, build up your feedback and find out the cheapest way to ship, sometimes shipping charges are my biggest decision in actually purchasing something.

2. Take the best pictures you can, I'm always working on this!

5-And a favorite quote?
I adore Lucille Ball and she has two great quotes I love:

The bell has a really nice chime and is hanging on elasticized string. If you like color, buttons, whimsey, soothing old fashioned chimes and repurposed items, this is the wind chime for you.
Price: 15.00

1-Why did you choose to sell on Etsy/ and do you sell anywhere else?
I chose Etsy to let my creative side escape (three children, husband, home, etc.. need something to keep me kind of sane). I am relatively new to this site, but have and do continue to sell on ebay. I find etsy a relaxed and pleasant way to sell, especially for handmade items although there is definetly a market for vintage as well which is nice because of the green factor.

2- What is your fave thing to buy on Etsy (whether it be supplies or gifts etc.)
Gifts seem to be what I have been buying. I purchased a lovely vintage ring for my daughter, I even purchased my own mothers day gift! (with the input of my family of course) It is very pretty by the way and would order again from any of the sellers I have dealt with so far.

3-What is your current fave product(not in your store) under 20$?
I like it all! It would be very hard to pick one certain thing but if you look in my
favorites I have many items under $20. Vintage sewing, millinery, vintage jewelry, new handmade clothing and jewelry, the list goes on and on. So many things, so little time, sigh....

4- Any advice for new sellers?
I am pretty new to etsy but as mentioned have been selling on ebay since 2001. Communication with buyers is important, especially living in Canada and shipping taking longer than within the USA, letting people know this helps. The nature of vintage and antique means some wear usually. Each person has their own system of grading condition which can be subjective. Good pictures and details are important.

5-And a favorite quote?
There are many great quotes and words to live by, not sure of the exact phrasing or who quoted it but the saying of doing the right thing even when no one is watching comes to mind first.
